The Honeymoon Is Over

When Michael left us, the world suddenly woke up. His music was everywhere, on tv, on the radio. Newspapers and magazines brought out tributes. The Jackson family became more visible, responding to and interacting with fans. Every celeb interview made a reference to how he had influenced that particular artist. Many artists brought out tribute songs. Everything in the media was positive, focusing on the music and the tragedy of 3 young children losing their dad. Then side by side with all that, was the on going saga of the Murray trial, the court appearances, the dramas between the defense and prosecution, and then finally the televised trial and subsequent verdict and sentencing.

The Michael Jackson fan community got lulled into a false sense of security. The media printed positive stuff about Michael because that's what the people wanted to read. The world was transfixed by the tragedy and drama of a superstar killed by his doctor, leaving 3 children fatherless. The ongoing court drama sold the units, increased circulation, gave hits to websites, generated income through advertisers, so of course they focused on the positive about Michael, to counter the negative Murray stories.

Now though, the honeymoon is over. Murray is in jail, he is yesterdays news. The media know that anything with Michael's name will sell, so they return to the negative stories about him. Last week it was The Sun with their interviews with Matt Fiddes, this week its Rock of Ages ridiculing Michael's vitaligo. All that's happening is that the bubble of the hype of losing Michael has burst and its back to the negative stories, the crude jokes and Michael Jackson the weirdo stories. For those of us who have been part of the fan community for many years before June 2009, its a world we know all too well. 

All that is happening is that the world is going back to how it was when Michael was here. Those who joined the fan community in 2009 need to realise that the hype, the positive high media profile is fading. The media are back with the negative stories and the Jackson family, now that they have used the fans to promote their projects and events under the guise of "grief stricken family" are less visible, interacting less and generally going back to how they were when Michael was alive, on the periphery of the fan community. 

Looking to the Jackson family to defend Michael is useless, they wont as that wont make them any money. 

Its stupid getting upset about negative stories in the media, cos since 2009 you have only seen positive stories.  For over 20 years the media have been doing this, they didnt care how much it hurt him when he was alive, so why would they stop now he is dead. His name sells no matter the content. 

The honeymoon is over, toughen up, and wise up.
